"Given years of construction and detours, we think this Call to Action is fitting." That is how the Stony Plain Road Business Improvement Area explains its October dining week, which it has named "Eat the Road." It runs from October 1 to 10. Diners who eat in at a participating restaurant are entered to win one of three $100 gift cards.
In Glenora, that line about construction describes two places. Both of the neighbourhood's small commercial corners sit next to a Valley Line West stop that is still being built. West Block is at the doorstep of the Grovenor/142 Street Stop. The strip at 10340 134 Street is a block from the Glenora Stop, which the City places at the 133 Street intersection. The City expects construction to finish in 2028, with testing and commissioning to follow. It has not given an opening date. Even so, both corners have something new this month, and neither is waiting for the trains.
At 142 Street, the Platform Is Going In Next to the Patios
Marigold Infrastructure Partners, the contractor, puts the Grovenor/142 Street Stop at 142 Street and Stony Plain Road. Platform concrete on the westbound side was scheduled to start around August 14. The work was expected to take about two months, with construction continuing until the stop is complete. On that schedule, the platform work would be wrapping up about now. The City's mid-season update says most of the track slab between the Stony Plain Road bridge and this stop was done by July.
Four West Block restaurants and cafes are taking part in the dining week:
| Spot | Address | Dining Week offer |
|---|---|---|
| Leopard Pizza | #170, 14055 West Block Drive NW | $24 lunch combo until 2 p.m., $43 dinner combo, each with pizza, salad and soft serve |
| Zula Kitchen + Wine Bar | 14055 West Block Drive NW | $50 dinner menu, starting with halloumi or tiger prawns and ending with baklava and vanilla ice cream |
| Square 1 Coffee | #140, 14055 West Block Drive NW | 50% off any one handcrafted drink |
| Ayco Cafe | 14213 103 Avenue NW | $19.95 Fall Combo, a turkey and brie sandwich with apple, cranberry and Dijon, plus salad and coffee or tea |
Most of these places opened well before this fall. Leopard was new at West Block in July 2022, and a local food writer reported that it sold out of pizza on two of its first three nights. Zula, from the team behind Sofra, was open by January 2023. Square 1's West Block cafe followed the company's original cafe in 2020.
Ayco is the newcomer. Its second Edmonton cafe was open by the end of June 2026, which means it opened in the middle of a construction season. It is also around the corner on 103 Avenue, outside the West Block Drive building. The BIA still lists it as "Ayco Cafe - West Block."
The developer's September 2026 tenant list shows how much daily life already runs through this corner. Alongside El Corazon and the restaurants above, it lists ATB Financial, Dispensaries Pharmacy, Glenora Fine Wines & Spirits, Glenora Pediatric Clinic, West Block Dental, The Cutting Room Salon, The Nail Block and several others. The same page lists one retail bay of about 920 square feet as available now.
One Block From 133 Street, a Second Shopfront Opens on Thursday
The other corner is smaller and newer to most people outside Glenora. The Colombian Coffee Bar & Roastery calls its location at #1, 10340 134 Street NW its flagship, and it roasts on site. The shop has drawn outside attention. Edify included it in its 2025 Best Coffee feature. In 2026, The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops ranked The Colombian Coffee Bar 15th on its list for North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
On Thursday, October 8, at 10 a.m., Be-a-Bella opens next door at #2, 10340 134 Street NW. Kathy and Nigel Prosser have run the candy and gift shop in Highlands since 2014. They named it after Bella, their basset hound. Glenora is their first second location in more than a decade. When a commenter asked whether the Highlands shop was closing, the team answered, "No way. We love Be-a-Bella Highlands." Regular hours for the Glenora shop had not been announced when the opening was reported. Check the shop's Instagram before you plan around it.
A block away, the Glenora Stop is taking shape. Through the first half of 2026, crews installed the platform canopy steel and decorative wood. Once the line opens, the trip from 134 Street to West Block will be one stop. For now, the two corners are connected by Stony Plain Road, which is down to one lane each way. The City says that layout is permanent, not a construction detour.
This Month's Construction Schedule
Dining week overlaps with overnight roadwork on the West Block side. A notice dated September 23 scheduled about three weeks of overnight work starting around September 28 on 142 Street, south of Stony Plain Road. The inside lanes of 142 Street and the westbound left-turn lane close only between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Lanes reopen after each shift, and access to businesses stays open. On that timeline, the overnight work should wrap up around October 19.
Daytime access has also improved. Marigold reports that north-south traffic at 142 and 149 Streets is back to full capacity and that pedestrian access is open throughout the area. For anyone driving to West Block for lunch or dinner before 9 p.m., this month's construction is mostly something you see rather than something you have to drive around.
This is also why "Eat the Road" makes sense as a name. The restaurants on this stretch have stayed open while the road was rebuilt around them, and the BIA credits loyal customers and good food for getting them through. In its words, some of the participants are places "you've driven past without stopping."
Ten Days Between Two Stops
This week's dates line up so that you can visit both corners before dining week ends:
- Before Thursday: Use the half-price handcrafted drink at Square 1, then walk to Ayco on 103 Avenue for the $19.95 Fall Combo. Both qualify for the gift card draw.
- Thursday, October 8: Be-a-Bella opens at 10 a.m. on 134 Street. The Colombian is next door if you want coffee while you wait.
- Any day before 2 p.m.: Leopard's $24 lunch combo brings pizza, salad and soft serve in at about half the price of its $43 dinner combo.
- By Saturday, October 10: Zula's $50 dinner menu ends with dining week. Choose chicken kebab, petite tender steak or salmon for the main.
If you want to stretch your legs, you can walk the short stretch between the two corners or take the ravine detour we wrote about earlier this season. Our Glenora neighbourhood page has more about the area around both stops.
Our office is at West Block, so we see the platform work at 142 Street every day. At Rimrock Real Estate, we're keeping track of how these two corners change as the Grovenor/142 Street and Glenora stops get closer to opening. If you're planning a build in Glenora and want to know what the line will mean for your street, come by for a coffee and we'll walk you through it.
